ChatGPT Ads are now a real advertising channel for Malaysian businesses. As of 30 September 2026, Malaysia is listed by OpenAI as a country with self-service Ads Manager availability. That means eligible Malaysian advertisers can create campaigns directly through Ads Manager rather than relying exclusively on a sales or agency route. [1] The bigger question is no longer whether ChatGPT Ads exist in Malaysia, but whether they make strategic sense for your audience, offer, and conversion journey.
| Malaysia status: verified 30 September 2026. OpenAI’s live Ads Manager Availability page currently lists Malaysia as “Available” for self-service access. Availability and platform features can change, so advertisers should verify the live OpenAI documentation before launching. |

What Are ChatGPT Ads?
ChatGPT Ads are sponsored placements designed to appear in relevant ChatGPT conversations. OpenAI says ads are clearly labelled and kept separate from ChatGPT’s answers; advertising does not influence or change the answers users receive. [2]
The important difference from conventional search advertising is the environment. A user may describe a problem, explain their constraints, compare options and ask follow-up questions in one conversation. That creates a richer context for advertising than a short keyword alone.
For marketers, this means the strategic question shifts from “Which keyword should we bid on?” toward “Which customer situations should our brand be relevant to?”
Why Conversational Intent Changes Advertising
Compare two interactions:
- Search: “MBA in Malaysia”
- Conversation: “I’m an international student looking for an affordable MBA in Kuala Lumpur, and I want a programme that can support my career after graduation.”
The second interaction communicates a problem, audience, geography, constraints and decision criteria. This is what makes conversational intent strategically interesting: relevance can be connected to the situation behind the request, not only to the words used.
Are ChatGPT Ads Available in Malaysia?
Yes. Malaysia is currently listed as “Available” for self-service ChatGPT Ads. OpenAI’s availability page states that the legal entity that will advertise and be billed must be based in a listed country. [1]
On 23 September 2026, OpenAI announced the rollout of ChatGPT Ads across Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan, expanding availability to more than 60 countries. Eligible businesses can access ChatGPT Ads through Ads Manager, the OpenAI Ads Solutions team, agency partners and technology partners. [4]

How Much Do ChatGPT Ads Cost in Malaysia?
There is no single fixed “ChatGPT Ads price.” Cost depends on campaign objective, bidding, delivery and auction conditions. OpenAI currently supports Views, Clicks and Conversions objectives. [3]
| Item | Current OpenAI guidance | What it means |
| Minimum daily campaign budget | RM35 for MYR billing (shown in Ads Manager, 30 Sep 2026) | Platform minimum shown when creating a campaign; not a recommended business budget. |
| CPC starting guidance | US$3–$5 maximum bid per valid click | OpenAI recommends starting with a maximum bid of US$3–$5 per valid click; actual delivery varies. |
| Views objective | CPM | Designed to maximise visibility; billed per 1,000 impressions. |
| Clicks objective | CPC | Designed to drive website/product traffic; billed per valid click. |
| Conversions objective | oCPC or oCPM, subject to eligibility | Optimises toward a supported conversion event; advertisers do not pay per conversion. |
| Daily / weekly spend cap | 2× daily budget per day / 7× daily budget over seven days | OpenAI states that actual delivery may fluctuate, but spend is capped at these levels subject to applicable proration. |
When Partow Ads checked Ads Manager on 30 September 2026, the minimum daily budget for MYR billing was RM35. OpenAI’s help documentation may list a different figure while the platform is in beta, so treat the amount shown in your own Ads Manager account as the one that applies. This is a platform minimum, not a recommended media budget. For example, RM35/day is roughly RM1,050 over 30 days, RM100/day is roughly RM3,000 and RM300/day is roughly RM9,000, before delivery variation. OpenAI also states that daily spend will not exceed 2× the selected daily budget, and spend over the applicable seven-day period will not exceed 7× that daily budget, subject to proration when a budget changes. | Important: minimum budget ≠ recommended budget RM35/day only establishes the platform minimum for MYR billing. Your practical test budget should be based on your objective, expected conversion volume, audience size, and acceptable acquisition cost. |
How ChatGPT Ads Work in 2026
- Objectives: Views, Clicks and Conversions allow advertisers to optimise around exposure, traffic or a supported conversion event. [3]
- Context hints: Advertisers can describe the types of conversations where their ad should be relevant. These are contextual signals, not exact-match search keywords. [3]
- Measurement: Ads Manager reports impressions, clicks, spend, CTR, average CPC, average CPM and conversions when conversion measurement is configured. UTM parameters can also be added to landing-page URLs. [2]
- Budget control: Campaigns can use daily or campaign-total budgets. A daily budget is an average over a seven-day period; individual days can spend more or less while staying within the published seven-day limits. [3]
- Auction: OpenAI describes a relevance-weighted, second-price auction. For CPC campaigns, it currently recommends starting with a maximum bid of US$3–$5 per click. [2]
What Changed in September 2026?
- Malaysia rollout: On 23 September 2026, OpenAI announced that ChatGPT Ads was beginning to roll out in Malaysia and six other Southeast Asian/Taiwan markets. Malaysia is also listed as “Available” for self-service Ads Manager. [1][4]
- Sponsored Agents: OpenAI is testing Sponsored Agents with selected advertisers in the United States. Users can choose to interact with a clearly labelled sponsored AI agent before visiting the business website. [7]
- AI-assisted creative: OpenAI has introduced AI assistance for suggested ad copy and imagery, contextual text customization and translation capabilities. [8]
- CRM and commerce integrations: OpenAI announced HubSpot and Shopify integrations, connecting advertising more closely with lead management and commerce workflows. [8]
For Malaysian advertisers, the important takeaway is that the platform is moving beyond a simple sponsored card toward a broader advertising ecosystem. However, some newer capabilities remain limited tests or have eligibility requirements.
Free & Go Only: Why Audience Eligibility Matters
ChatGPT Ads are currently shown to users on the Free and Go plans. OpenAI states that Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans remain ad-free. [2]
This matters for targeting. A brand should not assume that ChatGPT’s entire user base is reachable through paid placements. In some B2B categories, the people most likely to buy may also be heavy AI users who have upgraded to an ad-free plan.
| Partow Ads implication Before allocating meaningful budget, identify whether your ideal customer profile is likely to sit inside the ad-eligible audience. Paid AI advertising and organic AI visibility should be planned as complementary routes. |
What the Early Data Tells Us
Independent evidence is still limited, but the available research provides useful context. SE Ranking analysed 50,006 commercial prompts across 20 niches in the United States and found an ad on 25.94% of prompts in its August 2026 study. It also reported that in 96.37% of ad placements, the advertiser was not cited among the organic sources in the answer. [5]

SE Ranking’s advertiser-side test ran three campaigns across the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It generated 97,131 impressions and 1,263 clicks, with an average CTR of 1.30%, but almost no sign-ups. SE Ranking noted that the test ran in June 2026 and that the platform has changed since then, so these results should be treated as an early benchmark rather than a current performance guarantee. [6]
This is not a universal benchmark for Malaysia. It is an early external case study that reinforces one practical point: impressions and clicks do not automatically equal qualified demand.
Malaysia’s Wider Digital Advertising Context
The Malaysian Digital Adex FY2025 report recorded RM1.776 billion in reported digital ad spend from 21 contributing agencies and estimated total Malaysia Digital Adex at RM2.9594 billion when direct and long-tail spend were included. Social accounted for 46.3% of reported digital Adex, its highest share in the report. [9]
That context matters because ChatGPT Ads is entering a market where social and other measurable digital channels are already significant. A Malaysian advertiser should therefore compare AI advertising against its existing acquisition economics rather than evaluating it in isolation.

ChatGPT Ads vs Google Ads vs Meta Ads
Partow Ads view: This is a strategic framework, not a platform ranking.
| Channel | Environment | Strategic role | Key metrics |
| Google Ads | Active search | Capture explicit demand | Leads, sales, CPA/ROAS |
| Meta Ads | Social discovery | Create and shape demand | Leads, sales, CPA/ROAS, engagement |
| ChatGPT Ads | Conversational research | Reach AI-assisted decision moments | Qualified traffic, conversions, CPA/ROAS |
Sponsored Agents and the Future of Conversational Advertising
A conventional advertising journey often looks like Ad → Click → Landing Page. Sponsored Agents suggest another possible path: Ad → Conversation → Questions → Clarification → Website → Action.

Figure 2. Partow Ads framework: from customer context to conversion.
Sponsored Agents are still an early-stage test, not a universally available format. But the direction is notable: advertising, brand voice, product information and customer experience can increasingly meet inside a conversational interface. [7]
How Malaysian Brands Should Prepare
- Clarify your positioning: State what you offer, who you serve, where you operate and what makes the offer relevant.
- Build an AI-ready content foundation: Create useful service pages, FAQs, comparisons and guides that answer real customer questions.
- Make the website conversion-ready: A sponsored placement creates an opportunity; the landing page still has to earn the enquiry or purchase. Partow Ads’ SEO-friendly website design guide explains how structure, speed, mobile UX and clear calls-to-action support that journey.
- Create context-specific creative: Develop messages for customer situations rather than generic brand claims.
- Track the full funnel: Measure qualified enquiries, purchases, applications, bookings or another meaningful business event.
- Keep SEO and AI visibility connected: Paid placement and organic AI citation are different layers. Build both.
- Test before scaling: Use a defined hypothesis, conversion event and testing window before committing larger budgets.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are ChatGPT Ads available in Malaysia?
Yes. As of 30 September 2026, Malaysia is listed as “Available” for self-service Ads Manager by OpenAI. The advertiser’s legal entity and billing setup must meet OpenAI’s eligibility requirements. [1]
How much do ChatGPT Ads cost in Malaysia?
In Partow Ads’ check of Ads Manager on 30 September 2026, the minimum daily campaign budget for MYR billing was RM35. That is a platform minimum, not a recommended media budget. For CPC campaigns, OpenAI recommends starting with a maximum bid of US$3–$5 per valid click. Actual costs and delivery vary by auction and campaign setup. [2]
Can I spend only RM35 per day?
Technically, RM35 was the minimum daily campaign budget shown for MYR billing when we checked, and the exact minimum is displayed in Ads Manager when you create a campaign. For a meaningful business test, however, the practical budget should be based on audience size, conversion volume and the cost you can tolerate for a qualified result.
Who sees ChatGPT Ads?
ChatGPT Ads are currently shown to Free and Go users. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users remain ad-free. [2]
Do ChatGPT Ads change ChatGPT’s answers?
OpenAI says advertising is kept separate from ChatGPT’s answers and does not influence or change the answers users receive. [2]
How are ChatGPT Ads different from Google Ads?
Google Ads primarily captures explicit search demand. ChatGPT Ads are designed for conversational environments where users can explore, compare and ask questions. Both can have a role in the same acquisition strategy.
Can ChatGPT Ads replace Meta Ads or Google Ads?
There is no universal reason to replace established channels. The practical approach is to test ChatGPT Ads against clear business KPIs and compare the quality and economics of the resulting demand.
Is ChatGPT Ads suitable for B2B?
It depends on audience eligibility and conversation volume. Because paid ads currently reach Free and Go users, B2B advertisers should first assess whether their ideal customer profile is represented in that audience. [2]
Does advertising make my brand appear in ChatGPT’s organic answer?
Not necessarily. SE Ranking’s 2026 study found that in 96.37% of observed ad placements, the advertiser was not cited among the organic sources in the answer. Paid placement and organic AI visibility are separate layers. [5]
